As many of you may be aware, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Sunday 26 Apr 15 with the epicentre in the area between Pokhara and Kathmandu. Aftershocks have continued through the day and the impact has been felt across the region. There has been significant damage and loss of life in Kathmandu and elsewhere.
We praise God that all of the CMS and other INF staff are safe and well.
However, there has been considerable loss of life and injury and the relief effort is only just beginning. Please keep Nepal, CMS and other Christian workers, and our brothers and sisters in Nepal in your prayers.
Below are two statements put out by INF. You can read the latest news through INF’s Facebook page.
“NEWS FROM KATHMANDU
After the big shakes of yesterday, many people spent the night in the open fearing further aftershocks. Through the night there were several more shakes, so sleep did not come easily. Several from the INF Team in Kathmandu slept in KISC’s Basketball court. Today many, like us, will need to sort out water and sanitation.
We are very thankful that our part of town wasn’t as badly affected as other parts of Kathmandu – for example there is very little physical damage to the INF Office [lots of tidying up to do though with bookshelves everywhere]. Please do continue to join the world in praying for Nepal.”
“As the death toll continues to rise following the Nepal earthquake, please do pray for those who are trapped and injured, those who have lost loved ones, for safety and wisdom of those involved in rescue efforts.
Communication with the INF team has been good and we praise God that no INF staff or volunteers have been hurt, but many will be sleeping in the open tonight as aftershocks threaten more damage.”
Yours in Christ,
General Secretary, CMS NSW & ACT
