Dealing with Doubt

When was the last time you had doubts about trusting Jesus?  We all face temptations to turn away from what we trust about God: to disbelieve that he is trustworthy or good (or even there).  Although “doubt” can describe a number of different feelings—and not all are equally serious spiritual problems—we heard from Matthew 28 last week, doubt can water down our worship of Jesus.  For that, and many other reasons, it is important to deal with our doubts—and not simply let them fester or grow.

With that in mind, here are 3 tips for dealing with doubt:
Know the truth: If there are particular facts or issues that are the focus of your doubt, do some research into those topics to find out what the truth is.
Know God: Trusting God is relational.  The better you know him through his word, the better it will grow your trust.  After all, it’s hard to really trust someone you don’t know!
Know yourself: Sometimes doubt comes because we are living in a way that is against what God says.  Our mind tries to justify our lifestyle by creating doubts.  So experiencing doubt is a good opportunity to self-check my behaviour and attitude.

If you’d like to do some reading on the topic of doubt, here are two books I recommend to get you started:
