Prayer: trusting the God who hears

Last week I encouraged us to take a mid-year health check of our bible reading.  This week I want to encourage us to do the same with prayer.

Nothing could be more impractical than private prayer.  Prayer is not calling a struggling friend to see how they are going; Prayer is not giving a meal to a sick neighbour; or giving money to someone in need.  No one will know if you’re praying or not.

But if we believe that God is there, and he loves to hear our prayers and he acts powerfully through them—how could we not pray?  And so private personal prayer is one of the clearest and most powerful expressions of trust in God.  Does your prayer express that kind of trust in the God who is there and who hears?

Here are a couple of ideas to help your private prayer (one new and one old):

  • Prayer Mate app: prompts you to pray each day with a list of things to pray for.
  • Valley of Vision: A Collection of Puritan Prayers & Devotions
