Daily personal bible reading and prayer has long been considered one of the “staples” of a healthy Christian life. Like a healthy diet, it grows and nourishes faith over the years in ways that you may not even notice in the day-to-day. Some days may provide a memorable feast, but every morsel of God’s word will have been good for you in some way.
As we move into the winter months where sickness, tiredness and busyness can drain motivation, now is a great time to review how we are going in personal bible reading. If it is something you have let slip off the agenda (or it never was on the agenda), can I encourage you to commit yourself to reading your bible this week. And to make it a priority going forward.
If you’re not sure where to start, here are some ideas:
- App: Explore App from The Good Book Company. http://www.thegoodbook.com.au/explore-app.
- Book: Don Carson’s “For the Love of God”
- Or just pick a book of the bible and start reading!
