Busy! For most people, that’s the overwhelming sense of life at this time of year. That’s entirely understandable. It’s a busy time of year, with so many extra things added to our already full lives. And Christians are certainly not immune to that.
But at the same time, what a tragedy when the stress of the busyness of Christmas distracts us from the very thing that this time is meant to be about. That the very celebration that is meant to make us stop and remember one of the most crucial moments of the best news there has ever been—becomes an afterthought that intrudes on an already full and stressful time of year. So, in the midst of all that, make sure you take a moment (take several moments!) to remember that we are celebrating the moment when God became one of us to save us; That God came into our world and drew near to us, so that we could draw near to him.
The busyness might not go away—but at least it will remind us of the real reason for joy at Christmas.
